VINCE

I quickly bend to catch Lori just before she hits the ground. Her face becomes faintly pale and my heart hammers, filling my ears. I raise my head to face the Supremes.

“This is exactly why she should never return to that hellhole,” I yell and my gaze circles them.

I rise, carrying Lori in my arms. The urgency to get her conscious pumps adrenaline so strong that I turn sharply and dash to the door. Barrett moves towards me and I growl at him to not dare.

“One week.” A loud voice echoes into the silence, making me halt halfway through the door.

I turn to face the Supremes with my brows furrowed, and my gaze settles on Garf, whose face is set in a tight frown.

“This summoning continues in one week.” Garf barks, and all six of them stand to leave.

I swirl and storm off to the elevator, burying my anger at Garf. The ground floor elevator opens and I hurry in a slow jog, careful not to shake Lori excessively. I kick the door into the parking lot but freeze for a second when I star

VINCEI recognize Barrett's car when it speeds past us, and my body stiffens. A part of me hopes he'd ignore us, but just then, screeching tires sound behind us, and I sigh deeply. Lori's head snaps back and her face fills with dread, which makes my fury rise.“Stop.” I tell Welsh, and he brakes, making us lean forward.Barrett’s car speeds up and stops in front of us, blocking our way forward. I push the door open with force, gazing back at Lori and then Lola.“Stay here.” I tell them as I exit the car.Welsh is already standing by the door while Levi and the other three men form an uneven semicircle in front of my car. I stride past them, feeling Conan push to break free and slice through Barrett’s throat.I release my defenses a little and Conan rises to the surface as my nails elongate, and I remove the patch on my left eye, revealing my glowing eyes. Barrett blinks once when he sees me, and I see his confident pose falter.“Your presence here is illegal.” Barrett barks at me.“We

LORI“What?” I ask, blinking.Vince heaves, and my heart hammers heavily as a sour feeling fills my stomach.“One of the Supremes met me when I brought you home,” Vince begins. “Claudine, she met me in the parking lot.”I lean my head forward slightly, nodding for Vince to continue. He shrugs slightly. “All she said was that your parents would have never allowed any of this to happen.” “My parents are alive.” I furrow my brows.Vince nods once. “Yes, I know that, and that’s what confuses me.”I turn to Lola, whose lips form a straight line as she sighs, and my heart starts to thump heavily. I shake my head gently, facing Vince.“No.” I try to convince myself, but it’s futile. “It can’t be.”Vince places his hand on my left shoulder. “Please, relax.” His voice is low. “We have one week until the next summoning, so we can find some answers before then.”My thumping heart eases slightly, and I gaze down at my stomach, blinking multiple times. My mind immediately wanders to the many time

LORI“No way.” Vince protests with knitted brows.“I need to go, Vince.” My voice is firm.Vince sighs and looks at Lola, expecting some support.“They need to know everything Barrett did,” Lola says.Vince exhales and looks at me, parting his lips to speak.“And it’s better if Lori’s there to tell it,” Lola adds, interrupting Vince.Vince’s head snaps back to Lola, his brows furrowing slightly, and his shoulders slump in defeat. Sighing, he says, “Well, OK.” Lola's lips raise in a mock smirk. “I know you hate losing, but this is Lori’s fight.”“We leave after breakfast tomorrow.” Vince stands. “I have to take care of some things tonight.” He glances at Welsh and Levi, and they follow as he leaves. The rest of the evening is mostly silent for me, and when Vince returns, he sits on the balcony until very late, just staring straight ahead. I lie awake, swirling restlessly for long, but dozing off eventually. The morning comes rushing like water from a pressured tap nozzle, and Vince i

LORII’m just angry—angry at myself for believing I can be saved. Vince was bold enough to interfere in the first place, and I’m grateful for that. Levi drives quietly, stealing peeks at me occasionally. We cross Malrock’s border, and my heart drowns. I place both my hands underneath my stomach and blow a shaky breath. ‘This is it.’ As if sensing my pain, Levi’s shoulders rise and fall as he heaves, and his fist tightens on the steering wheel as we approach a curve on the road.“Stop.” I blurt out suddenly. Levi turns to me with knitted brows. “What?”“Stop, please.” My words are rushed, and I fix a stern gaze on Levi’s.Levi brakes, and we lean forward as the car reaches a quick standstill. Levi glances at me, the unspoken question written on his face. “I’ll walk the rest of the way.” My voice is low, and I turn my head to fix my gaze ahead.“But…” Levi starts, but I interrupt.“It’s just up ahead.” “No, it’s not.” Levi protests, looking down at my stomach, then at the road ahea

VINCEA legion of questions swarms me on our quiet drive back home. As the car approaches the Alpha house, where I’m supposed to alight, I see Lola standing with Lori outside the door.I quickly turn away, eyes straight, and gesture forward with my hand to Welsh, who throttles, heading for the parking lot. Lola walks towards us, but the car revs past her. A sour taste fills my mouth—guilt for not offering an explanation, but she’ll forgive me. Welsh and Levi stay mute and frozen beside the car as I march to my office. I sit on my chair, my head clasped between my hands as I scramble for an excuse to disobey the Supremes. A gentle knock on the door startles me; it creaks open, and Lola emerges. My gaze moves over her shoulder, but she shuts the door.“She stayed back,” Lola says, pointing backwards.I blow a loud breath, an unusual unease filling me as I think of talking to Lori. “Garf was there,” I state, gaze fixed on Lola’s.Lola nods, exhaling softly. “Yeah, Welsh told me everyth
