JACE'S P.O.V.

The room became dead quiet as I walked quietly to the shattered window and a relief washed over me when I realized they were gone. I turned around to see Anna holding her knee to her chest while staring into thin air.

“They’re gone,” I said softly as I sat next to her “Are you hurt?” She shook her head.

“Who were they? Why did they leave so suddenly? And Rose?” I sighed while running my fingers through my hair.

“There’s a lot you need to know, and none of it will be easy to hear.”

“Then start talking,” She snapped and the fire in her eyes appeared, but there was something else, she was scared. “What aren’t you telling me, Jace?”

"I found out the truth about you the night before our wedding,” I began while watching her from the side of my eyes.a “I was at the venue, making final arrangements, when Rose showed up out of nowhere.”

“Rose?”

“She told me everything, your parents weren’t planning on marrying you off to me. They were planning to sell you to the richest man in the world, someone thrice your age with a reputation for cruelty. Your father saw you as a bargaining chip, a way to secure even more power and wealth.”

The idea still made me boil in anger, but I watched as she tried to control her breath and I placed a hand on shoulders

"They… they were going to sell me?”

“I couldn’t let that happen. I proposed a deal to Rose. If she let me marry you instead, you’d be free from that arrangement. But Rose… she’s not who you think she is, Anna. She’s dangerous.”

“What do you mean?”

“She's deeply involved in drugs. She’s tied to some very powerful and dangerous people. And the worst part? She admitted she’s always hated sharing everything with you. She wanted you out of the picture. Permanently.” Her body stiffened as she panicked.

"She wanted to kill me?” I nod gently.

“She didn’t outright say it, but the implication was clear. I think the gunmen tonight were her doing. She’s escalating, Anna.”

“Why would they do this to me? My family…” Tears slipped from the corner of her eyes and I lost all sense of composure, I immediately reached for her face and lift her chin while wiping away her tears.

"Because they don’t see you for who you are… But I do.” Her eyes glittered from the tears and I felt drawn into those magnificent green eyes.

My eyes wandered on every bit if her face and saw the clear difference between them, she was flawless, and her twin was not. Without her consent my lips brushed against hers and I watched as she slowly closed her eyes, letting me take control and I did.

She tasted addictive and my hands five through the bottom of her hair as I thug on to it deepening the kiss, and we pulled apart breathing heavily, it's like having a glimpse of heaven and I pressed my forehead against hers

“Pack your bags,” I mumbled softly “We’re leaving tonight.”

“Where are we going?” she whispered.

“Italy, It’s time for us to start fresh. Away from all of this.”

Hours later we boarded my jet bound for Italy and I watched as she stared outside the window, probably thinking about her family. It hunts me knowing I couldn't take her feelings away from her, but I just had to let her grieve.

We arrived at Italy and I shook off the weird feeling I had as the car drove to my Villa. I could see Anna's confusion when he got home.

“It's our house.” I mumbled, and she didn't say anything until we got to the room as I noticed her fumbling with the edge of her shirt.

“Did we… you didn’t really…” She trailed off, her cheeks flushing, and I realized what she was talking about.

“No, I didn’t touch you that night at the bar. You passed out, and I took you to my guest room. I wasn’t going to take advantage of you, Anna.”

“I’m sorry I accused you of that.” I brushed her hair away from face and cupped her left cheek.

"You had every right to be angry. But that’s in the past now.”

“Then I suppose it's time for our wedding night?” She mumbled, and a smirk appeared on my face.

“Well someone is being naughty”

“Kiss me already, Jace Lysander”

“Yes ma'am”

We sat at a local restaurant the next morning and I watched Anna attempt to speak Italian and I forced myself not to laugh, but it brought me comfort seeing her relax for the first time since we met

“You do know you can speak English right?” I mumbled and she pouted in the most adorable way.

“It's not everyday I get to be in a local restaurant in Italy” I chuckled, and she continued to torture the poor waiter

After breakfast, I drove out of the city and stopped at the one house I dread and we both walked out of the car

“My family’s originally from Italy,” I mumbled as we walked up the marble stairs and her eyes widened in realization “... Relax you'll be fine”

The door flew open revealing mama who had a frown on her face and she glared at Anna

“So, this is the woman you chose? She doesn’t seem like much.”

“Mama” I warned. “You will respect her. If you don’t, you’ll have to answer to me.”

"How dare you speak to me that way?”

“I dare because you’ve overstepped for the last time, Anna is my wife, and if you threaten her, you threaten me.” We both walked inside the house to see papa sitting on the couch “... Papa”

“Jace, you will not speak to your mother like that.” And everything in me snapped as I grabbed Anna's hands.

"Then I won’t speak to her at all. We’re leaving.”

"Jace, I didn’t mean to cause this…”

“It’s not your fault, I left home years ago because my mother tried to control my life. I won’t let her do the same to you.”

We returned to the Villa and my blood ran cold as I stepped out of the car to meet eyes with the one woman I really loathe

“Jace,”

"Vanya,” My response was cold, but I didn't care

“Who is she?” Vanya extended her hand to Anna and I watched them closely.

"I'm the woman Jace was supposed to marry five years ago.” I saw her body stiffen and immediately pulled her away “…And I’m here to take back what’s mine.”

“Vanya…"

“Don't even think about Jace, let the bimbo go”

JACE POV.My legs propelled me forward, pounding steps chasing the figure.Ahead, she vaulted over a low railing, stumbling but determined to escape.“Stop!” I yelled, gaining ground. My breath came in sharp bursts as I raced down the corridor. I’d seen her. I knew I had. That was Sophie—her build, her urgency, the unmistakable panic in her stride. But by the time I reached the stairwell, she was gone. Vanished like smoke.“Damn it!” I slammed my palm against the wall, then spun on my heel and stormed back down the hallway.“Security!” I barked into my phone. “Suspect was seen heading toward the east wing—female, late twenties, dark hair, possibly disguised. She drugged a hospital cleaner. Lock all exits. Now.”“Understood, Mr. Lysander,” came the curt reply.I stalked through the corridor, running a hand through my hair, heart beating like a war drum. I couldn't shake the image of Anna thrashing in that hospital bed, the memory of her wide, terrified eyes.Down the hall, two staff me

  • The Price Of Us   Chapter 135

JACE POVIt had been six hours.Six hours of sterile walls closing in. Of shoes scuffing the linoleum as I paced up and down the same damn stretch of corridor, counting the cracks in the floor tiles, listening to the second hand of the wall clock stab its way through time.Every time the door to the operating room swung open, my breath caught.Every time it wasn’t the doctor, I nearly lost my mind.My fists clenched, then opened, then clenched again. I couldn't sit. I couldn't breathe properly. My shirt stuck to my back with sweat. My heart hadn’t stopped racing since Anna's body started thrashing in that hospital bed.God. Why didn’t I listen to her?She told me. She said she saw Sophie—clear as day. And I... I brushed it off. Told her maybe she imagined it. Hell, I even said it wasn't our business.I’d failed her.I leaned against the wall, dragging both hands through my hair. My palms trembled. If anything happens to her… If anything happens to those babies…The image of her—barel

ANNA POV.A sharp cramp twisted low in my belly.I woke up with a soft gasp, my eyes fluttering open to sterile white light and the mechanical hum of machines. My body felt heavy, dull with pressure, but the pain was real now—low, deep, starting to roll in and out like a tide that was beginning to rise.I blinked, heart fluttering as I turned my head toward the window. The chair beside my bed was empty.Jace wasn’t there.Another cramp rolled through me, sharper this time. I reached instinctively for the call button—but stopped when I noticed someone at the far end of the room.A nurse. She stood beside the IV pole, adjusting the drip bag. Her hair was tucked neatly into her cap, face mostly covered with a surgical mask and goggles. Blue gloves, white scrubs. She looked focused, and efficient.I assumed it was the nurse Linda the doctor said would be monitoring me while he stepped away.“Excuse me,” I said, voice rasping. “Can you—can you please call my husband? I need him.”No respo

  • The Price Of Us   Chapter 133

JACE POV.The bedside clock glowed 2:17 a.m. when the third contraction slammed into Anna—this one a freight train. She folded in half, a raw cry tearing from her throat.“Start—timing,” she panted.“Already on it.” My thumb hit the stopwatch on my phone. Two minutes since the last one. Too close, too fast. I shoved my own panic down where she couldn’t see it.“Bag’s in the car, coats by the door,” I said, grabbing her robe and draping it over her trembling shoulders. “We leave now.”Another contraction rolled through. She clutched my T-shirt, knuckles white. “I—can’t—breathe—”“Yes, you can. In… four counts. Out… four.” I breathed with her until the grip on my shirt loosened.2:32 a.m. — DrivewayCold mist clung to the windshield as I helped her into the passenger seat. She hissed when she sat.“Seat warmers on,” I muttered, buckling her in. “You squeeze my arm when one hits. I’ll watch the road and the clock.”She managed a nod, sweat beading at her hairline.Halfway down the coasta

  • The Price Of Us   Chapter 132

ANNA POV.The car pulled into the hospital’s entrance, the kind of sterile place I’d hoped to avoid for as long as possible—until now. Nine months and some days, my due date looming like a quiet drumbeat in the back of my mind.Jace’s hand was warm and steady on my thigh, his eyes on the road but always somehow aware of me.“I’m nervous,” I admitted, voice low. “Not about the babies, but the whole… process.”He squeezed my leg. “You’re not alone. We’re in this together.”We stepped inside, the sharp scent of antiseptic wrapping around us like a reminder that this was real. My feet shuffled a little on the cold floor, the weight of my belly making every step deliberate. As we waited for the nurse, my eyes caught a woman walking briskly toward the elevators. My heart hit a sudden stop. That was Sophie. No doubt.I blinked twice, the image stuck: her sleek hair, the way she carried herself with that same cold confidence.I grabbed Jace’s arm, my voice tense. “Jace… I think I just saw So

  • The Price Of Us   Chapter 131

ANNA POV.Hospitals smelled like lemon disinfectant and quiet dread.Even after months of prenatal visits, I still found myself nervously rubbing circles on my belly every time we stepped into the OB wing. It wasn’t fear, not exactly. Just… heightened awareness. Like my body knew this was a place where life-altering news happened.Jace walked beside me, fingers laced through mine, whistling under his breath like we were heading to brunch and not a third-trimester checkup.“Stop that,” I muttered, elbowing him lightly. “You’re way too chipper for someone about to witness me waddle onto an exam table.”He grinned. “It’s part of my charm. And I brought snacks.”That earned him a smile.Inside the dimly lit ultrasound room, the technician—Elena, a woman with a voice like chamomile—greeted us warmly. The gel was cold, as always. The screen flickered to life.“There they are,” she said softly, angling the wand. “Your little duo.”I exhaled slowly, eyes locked on the grainy blobs of life wr
