“ I'll marry you” Lauren Greene said the words in utter desperation. Getting married to a crippled man whom she had never seen until that day was not something she had ever imagined she would do but when her mother had a cardiac arrest and needed an emergency surgery, she didn't care. This was her only choice. Alexander Magnus lost his parents in a hit and run accident which left him crippled at the age of ten. He went abroad to study afterwards, returning after twenty years to take over his father's company. The only person he ever talked to was his childhood friend and saviour, Melissa McCarthy. He cherished and loved her with his whole heart but much to his dismay, she never showed up for their court wedding. There he met Lauren Greene. How will Lauren cope with the aftermath of her impulsive decision? What happens when Alexander demands for an heir as payment for her mother's surgery? If their marriage supposedly worked out, what happens when dark pasts begin to surface?
View More"Sir." Dan called, walking into the spacious office hurriedly, the office was neat as usual and extremely cold as it always was. The coldness was from the man seated at the far end of the table close to the window where he could see everything going on outside.
Handsome with a pointed nose, a sea blue eye ball and a dark hair which was styled backward, his looks were enough to make any woman melt before him but his cold looks and condition would make one have a second thought about him.
He had everything a woman would want but he was on a wheelchair. A condition he wasn't born with but the condition life threw him in. He met with an unfortunate fate which took the life of his parents and made him paralyzed on a wheelchair when he was just ten.
From a lively and carefree boy, he became cold and insecure cause he felt like a liability to others. But when he discovered who was behind the death of his parents, he became ruthless and that gave him the strength to take what belongs to him from the hands of his uncle.
"What do you want?" He asked without sparing the man before him a glance.
"I'm sorry for barging in the way I just did, but I need to tell you this urgently." Dan said.
"I'm all ears." He said with his eyes still fixed on his laptop.
"It's about the girl you asked me to look into, I have found her and you wouldn't believe who she turned out to be." He said in ecstasy.
"Who is she and what does she do?" He asked looking away from what seemed like an important work to him few minutes ago.
"Her name is Melissa McCarthy, does that name ring a bell?" He asked in his usual cheerful voice.
"Does this all look like a joke to you and since when did we get that close?" Alex snapped.
"I'm sorry sir."He quickly apologized.
"Mr McCarthy is a famous billionaire as well, he has fashion houses and his boutiques are in every corner of our country here, he sells trendy clothes and he's successful all on his own. I'm sure you have met him during those business parties..."
"Did you make your investigation on the father or the daughter?" He asked curtly.
"No sir."
"Miss Melissa McCarthy is his daughter and she is the girl you have been searching for."He said with confidence.
"How sure are you?"
"I'm very sure sir,we searched everywhere based on your description and to confirm that she is the same girl you have been searching for, she was at the same spot that fateful day, so I'm confident she is the one."
If Melissa was the one who saved his life back then, he was glad that she was alive and well but there was still something confusing about this and he can understand if only she explain things personally to him.
But first he had to fulfill the promise he made to himself, he had to get married to the girl who saved him, the one he had been keeping his heart for all this while.
He was alive all thanks to her and to repay her good deeds, he had to get married to her by all cost cause no other woman would ever win his heart the way she did.
"What do I do after this sir?" Dan asked snapping him from his thoughts.
"Since her father is in the same caliber as I am, send a marriage proposal to the family and choose this weekend as our wedding day."
"Sir..." Dan said cutting in.
"Do you have a problem with my orders?" He asked glaring at him.
"No sir, I just need to be sure if I heard you right." He said.
"Find a vacant court room and free time, fix our wedding then and add the venue to the proposal letter, let me know when it gets to them and what they say about it." He ordered.
"Yes sir,I will do as you have ordered." He said trying to walk away.
"One more thing."Alex said driving himself towards him.
"Do it in secret, I don't want my uncle finding out about this secret of ours else you won't live to see the next Christmas." He threatened.
"I understand.. sir."He stuttered before walking away.
Finally he got the woman he had been searching for, that is the best news he had heard since his parents death.
The door opened almost immediately revealing a man in his fifties accompanied with a young man who was almost the same age as Alex.
"The scared ant has decided to crawl out of his hidden house."Jake said with a mocking smile as he made his way towards Alex.
"Why are you both here?"He asked fisting his hands in anger.
"You shouldn't do that to your own relatives, don't forget we are the only families you have left." Jake taunted obviously trying to get him angry.
"How..how dare you call yourself family?" He asked shaking in anger.
"You should be glad I still refer to you as a family despite the pitiful condition you are in. You should be glad you have two able men like I and my father but here you are feeling so full of yourself as you have always been what a pity."
"Stop that Jake, you shouldn't upset him,you know it's bad for his health. "Simpson said walking close to the two young men slowly.
"Why are you stopping him, aren't you here to do the same?" Alex asked snapping at him.
"I have grown past that Alex, you should know that yourself and moreover, I'm glad to see that you still have the same reaction you always do since you had this accident." He said leaning close to him.
"And it annoys me to see you breathing on the surface of the earth each time you show that ugly face of yours around me." He said spitefully making Simpson smile faintly.
"There's nothing you can do about my face son and I will be breathing for as long as I want to,so get used to it." He said standing straight.
"We saw your assistant running around when he is meant to be by your side, what's the occasion?"Jake asked walking to his table.
The file Dan left with him on Melissa was still there and he didn't want anyone to see that especially the two serpents in his office.
"What do you think you are doing?" He asked driving himself to the table and snapped the file out of his hand.
"What do you have in there? It looks like a top notch secret."Jake said looking interested.
"Whatever I do is none of your business."
"We are still your family young man!"
"And you are nothing but a murderer!" He snapped.
“You’re gonna love this, Lauren.” Her hand rested on her bellyLauren’s heart fluttered as Alex guided her up the spiral staircase to the rooftop of his sprawling mansion, the Singapore skyline twinkling below, her black silk dress swaying, and her emerald pendant catching the soft glow of fairy lights. His two crutches clicked, his green eyes warm, his voice low and promising. The rooftop doors opened, and her breath caught—glittering lights draped across pergolas, red roses spilling from vases, a candlelit table set for two, a romantic haven crafted for her. But her joy shattered as two figures turned from the table, their laughter halting: Jake, his smirk sharp, and Melissa, her blonde curls gleaming, her eyes wide with feigned surprise.Alex’s voice roared, his body tense, his crutches slamming the floor as he surged forward, his eyes blazing with fury. “What the hell are you doing here?” His face reddened, his balance wavering, his recovery strained. His anger was raw, but he fo
Lauren’s heart lurched as Melissa’s words—we just finalized our marriage—hung in the air of Alex’s opulent mansion. Her hand gripgped Alex’s, his crutch creaking beside her, his green eyes wide with shock. Jake's smirk faded, Melissa blonde curls framing her smug smile, their lunch plates abandoned on the polished table. Lauren’s eyes widened, her instincts screaming deceit, her voice sharp. “Married? You and Jake?” Her eyes narrowed, her heart racing, her pregnancy’s weight a quiet ache. “Melissa, what are you scheming?”Alex’s breath caught, his voice trembling, his crutch steady. “How is this even possible?” His gaze locked on Melissa, his shock raw, his hand tightening on Lauren’s. “You… you claimed you were carrying my child!” His tone sharpened, his eyes blazing, his pain over her lies—her fake pregnancy, her manipulation—a wound reopened. “What about that, Melissa? Explain!”Melissa’s smile faltered, her blue eyes darting as her hands clenched. Her voice stammered, “Alex, I…”
Lauren’s heart stopped as she and Alex stood frozen in the doorway of his sprawling mansion, the ocean breeze drifting through the open glass walls, the polished dining table a stage for betrayal. Her hand gripping Alex’s, his crutch creaking beside her. There, at the table, sat Jake, Alex’s cousin, his dark hair slicked back, his smirk sharp, and Melissa McCarthy, her step sister, her blonde curls cascading, her eyes wide with shock. The clink of their plates halted, their laughter dying as they stared at Alex, upright, his surgery’s triumph a silent thunderbolt. Lauren’s voice was sharp, her heart racing. “Melissa? Jake? What are you doing in Alex’s house?”Melissa’s gasp echoed, her blue eyes shooting up, her fork clattering to the table, her shock raw. “Alex… you’re walking?” Her voice stammered, her hands trembling, her gaze darting between his crutch and his steady stance, her disbelief palpable. “How… how is this possible?” She rose, her heels clicking, her arms opening as sh
Lauren’s heart leaped as Alex turned at the hospital’s coffee machine, his green eyes meeting hers, his faint smile a beacon in her storm. After 28 years of being crippled, Alex Reed could walk, his body leaning on a crutch, his posture unsteady but triumphant. Her voice trembled, her hands reaching for him, her joy overwhelming. “Alex! You’re… you’re walking?” Her tears spilled, her heart racing, Tom Devon’s will, Helen’s fraud, and Melissa’s bail fading for a fleeting moment.Alex’s smile widened, his voice soft, his eyes glistening. “Lauren, I did it.” His hand gripped the crutch, his other brushing hers, his warmth grounding her. “The surgery worked. I’m not perfect yet, but… I’m walking.” His voice wavered, his gratitude raw, his gaze locked on hers. “You pushed me to do this. Thank you.”Lauren’s sob escaped, her hands cupping his face, her tears falling. “Oh, Alex, I was so scared!” Her voice cracked, her guilt for urging the surgery—50/50 chance, amputation risk—melting in h
Lauren’s breath caught in the sleek Orchid Enterprises office, Khalid’s words—They need to destroy Tom’s real will—a dagger in her already aching heart. The fluorescent lights buzzed, casting sharp shadows on the glass walls. Tom Devon’s will, granting Helen Devon the right to sell Orchid Enterprises to Victor Kane—a criminal who’d turn Tom’s legacy into a hub for drugs and money laundering—felt like a betrayal, but this new revelation, a real will hidden by Helen’s lawyer, sparked hope and despair in equal measure. Her eyes glistened with determination, her hands clutching the dossier on Kane’s crimes, her voice trembling. “Khalid, the real will? It exists, but… it’s with the lawyer? How do we even get it?”Khalid’s eyes widened, his voice low, his hands gripping the table, his face etched with urgency. “Lauren, I know it sounds impossible.” His tone wavered, his gaze darting to the office door, his fear palpable. “I heard them—Helen and that snake, Vaughn, at her hotel. They’re sc
Lauren’s heels clicked on the polished floor of La Lune, as she spotted Khalid at a corner table, his face etched with regret, his eyes heavy. She slid into the booth, her voice soft but trembling, her hands clasped tightly. “Khalid, thank you for meeting me.” Her eyes searched his, her heart racing, Tom’s legacy a fire in her chest. “What’s happening with Orchid Enterprises? I need to know.”Khalid’s gaze met hers, his voice low, his hands fidgeting with a napkin. “Lauren, before I tell you, I need to ask…” He paused, his eyes narrowing, his tone weighted. “Did you really love Tom Devon?” His sad smile flickered, his voice trembling. “We saw how he adored you, and how his eyes lit up. But now he’s gone, and his company’s falling apart. I need to know if you meant it. Everybody trusted you to keep this company up. They all had their hopes on you but now their dreams are lost. They're about to lose everything. So tell me, do you really love Tom enough to take up this fight for his peop
