“It is time, Young Luna.”
I glanced up to find my slave maid Aella standing there. Taking a shaky breath I nodded.
"Thanks. Um.. I'll be there shortly."
She nodded. I waited until I heard her receding footsteps before dashing to the window, peeking out for any sign of the car.
The black Mustang was right below my window.
I put on a smile, then turned and walked towards the door.
"All right, let us go!" I called out to Aella as I got outside, who smiled and started the car engine.
I looked into the car, and my smile paused.
My husband was nowhere to be found.
I looked around; no sign of him. My husband, the man I love, he was not there.
I felt a growl in my chest, my wolf was upset and restless; it felt like she was pacing back and forth.
Obviously because Rune promised to bring me to the hospital but didn't show up
His mother, the current Luna, had promised that he would come to the hospital, and I believed her.
I believed he would appear, and the thought of it kept me in a sleepless frenzy all night.
"Is something wrong, Young Luna?" Someone's voice jolted me from my thoughts.
I looked up to meet Aella's piercing gaze in the mirror. It brought a smile back to my face.
"Y—yes, Aella." My smile widened. "I am doing well and okay." I turned to look through the car's window, watching the houses and people flash past.
"We have arrived, Young Luna." Aella announced after a while, and I looked around to see that we'd arrived at the hospital.
It was a simple building painted white.
A statue of a rearing werewolf adorned the grassy space in its front.
I watched her drive into a space slowly and turn off the ignition.
She turned to address me once more. "You will leave the vehicle and wait for me while I go to park in the lot."
I nodded and opened the car door unconsciously.
Suddenly, a blinding light covered my eyes, I raised my hands to shield my eyes, and that's when I saw a car sprinting towards me like a bullet! Heart racing, I froze in terror.
I staggered backwards in alarm, but before I could go far. All of a sudden, a man I had not seen before stood in front of me.
"Pull around!" He yelled so loudly that the man, whoever was driving the car, immediately stopped.
"Are you doing okay?" He turned to ask me. "I apologize for that, but were you hurt?"
I shook my head and nodded again. Did I fall or remain standing?
For crying out loud! I could not figure out what had happened. How did I end up where I am now?
I looked up to find the man staring at me with worry in his eyes. His hands hovered around me, as if to check for any wounds.
I flinched as his hand touched me. My eyes moved around, catching his features. His long, sandy-blonde hair brushed the top of his shoulders.
His beautiful bright blue eyes stared at me with worry in them.
He had on a tight black compression shirt, which outlined his biceps really well.
He was so attractive that I found myself staring at him for a long time. Finally, I pulled my eyes away.
"I am fine," I muttered. "My maid is right around the corner."
I saw Aella running towards me, concerned in her eyes.
"What has happened, my Lady?" She asked.
"Are you okay?"
When the man excused us, Aella gasped in shock and grabbed my arm, pulling me to a safer place.
"What were you thinking?" She yelled. "That car could have injured you.... or worse!"
I did not know how to respond.
I could still feel the shock, and all I could do was stare at the ground.
I hoped the babies were fine, at least.
"Let's go!" Aella said and led the way to the white building.
We caught up with the office soon enough, and following the doctor's examination, he confirmed that the babies were healthy.
I was very relieved at the news, and I let out a sigh before leaving the office.
We arrived at the reception area, and Aella stopped me with a hand on my shoulder.
"I have to get the car. I will be back." She said and walked away, leaving me standing motionless.
Everything that had happened just a few moments before had done enough for me, and there was no way I was going to take another risk that would cost me my life.
"Hey" A voice called out to me suddenly.
I turned to see where the voice came from. It was the man who had saved me earlier.
“I am fine, thanks." I replied with a smile. "I appreciate the assistance the other time."
"Oh, it is nothing," he said. " You do not have a stomach bump yet, but I suspect you are pregnant.
What is the condition of the baby? Did you hit your tummy? And what did the doctor tell you?"
"They are fine," I proudly informed the man, implying that they were two babies rather than one.
"The doctor has confirmed that they are fine."
“You know…” He started. "I was so worried about you and decided to wait until you got out.
I was almost even growing impatient." He smiled brightly
" Really?" I burst out laughing, for the first time in a while.
"Well, I apologize for wasting your time, but you should not have been concerned about me.
Especially since you saved the day and kept me from getting hurt."
He nodded, and my eyes caught his again. He looked into my eyes for a while without saying a word and I felt a flutter in my stomach that I hadn't felt for a long time.
Even a blush was creeping up my face. The man was so attractive!
In so many ways, he reminded me of Rune, whom I had loved my entire life.
They had the same charm around them. His blue eyes and Rune's looked so similar.
I knew I needed to end the conversation before it became too much.
I chuckled softly and broke my gaze.
"Ohh I can see your maid is here with the car."
"Ah Yes, she is." I replied, staring at his eyes again. "I have to go now.... And thank you once again for saving my life"
" Okay, now you're making me look like some super hero, I'm glad I could help" He said, looking straight into my eyes, and I chuckled, biting my lip.
"You're really funny"
"Thanks, I'm sorry for taking your time"
He nodded, bowed, and then turned around.
I smiled as I watched him from behind.
And just as he was about to leave my sight, I heard a familiar deep and husky voice behind me. "Who exactly is that guy?"
I turned around, surprised to see him.
My husband Rune, and he was with my sister.
"Lila?"
Raven’s POVWe ran fast, as though something was chasing us from behind. The walls were closing in, but we didn’t slow down, and our breath were coming out forced, he didn't also stop to catch air.The Council chamber was no longer safe, not with rogues already inside. I could smell their blood. Their hate was always noticeable, their plan was working."They got in through someone," I said, while trying to catch my breath.Rune said nothing, he turned his face to watch at me while he just kept pace beside me. I didn’t want him next to me, but I wasn’t stupid enough to turn down help, at least not now, my life was in danger. We reached the hall, my eyes grew on where the guards had gone silent. A heavy body slumped at the entrance and his head detached from his body."They came through this way," Rune said, sniffing the air.I gave a light nod, while I shifted slightly, just enough to let my wolf take over my senses. My claws slid out. I heard the scratch of nails against stone before
Rune’s POVThe courtyard still smells like blood and smoke. The ground was littered with bodies. I searched and noticed it was mostly the rogues, but a few of our guards too. I stepped over one, its fur matted with blood, the chest still rising faintly like it wasn’t ready to die.I didn’t stop. Protecting myself, no, not this time. I had to be selfish. I had to do something right. My claws were still half out. I hadn’t shifted back fully. My chest burned with anger. But it wasn’t from the fight. It was from seeing her. Raven, she was Alive,Standing on the Council podium, blood on her arms, her cloak torn. She didn’t look broken. She looked like she was ready for war.Logan was beside her, gripping her elbow like she might fall, she wasn’t going to fall, not yet.She saw me coming but didn’t flinch a muscle. I walked faster. Logan’s eyes narrowed at me, like he was warning me.“She needs a healer, she is injured,” he said.“She needs space, I need to talk to her.” I retorted.Raven ti
Raven’s POVThe Council chamber was a mess, blood spread on the floor. The walls had cracks. And pieces of the windows laid on the floor, bodies everywhere, some alive, some not.I stepped over a broken spear, my eyes scanned around the floor noting my blood on the floor, Logan was in front of me, holding his side.“Are you bleeding?” I asked.“It’s just a shallow cut,” he said, breathing hard. “Where are the others?”Rune appeared by the doorway, claws still half-shifted. His face was hard. “The rogues are gone, for now.”I looked down at the blood on my hands. I didn’t even know whose it was. Then a Council guard burst through the door. He dragged a rogue in chains. The rogue’s clothes were torn, his mouth bloody from a fight. He was still grinning.“We caught him in the tunnels,” the guard said. “He was trying to escape.”I walked up to him. “Why are you here?”The rogue spat on the floor. “You were supposed to be dead.”Logan stepped beside me. “Answer her.”The rogue laughed. “Sh
Raven’s POVThe council chamber was colder than I expected. Every pair of eyes turned to me like blades, but I didn’t flinch. I walked in wearing my Luna cloak, the hem whispering against the stone floor, my braids heavy down my back like a crown I refused to take off. They offered me a seat.“I can’t and I won’t,” I said. “I’m not here to beg. I’m here to be heard.”Gasps broke out, but I didn’t care. My voice rang through that room with the weight of everything they’d stolen from me.“Did you betray your mate?” one asked.“I was loyal,” I replied. “Until loyalty became survival.”They hated that answer. I could see it as frown lines grew on their face. They played the recordings Lila had doctored. My voice, Lila's hand work. It made me sound cruel, manipulative, like I’d wanted everything that happened to me in the pack. But even their lies couldn’t drown out the truth I held in my chest.“You may test me,” I said clearly. “Test me for the pregnancy. Test the children. There is no s
Rune’s POVI tilted my head, watching as the hall filled with Council members and other formalities. My blood boiled under my skin, though I could taste the fear flowing from them.My boots echoed against the polished floor as I walked in with my jaw set, heart pounding faster than my steps. Beads of sweat formed on my forehead, but I didn’t show it.The guards stood by the walls, their expressions unreadable as they stood still like statues. At the front, the Tribunal Circle sat elevated on stone thrones, each carved with the sigils of their regions. In the center sat Alpha Caldor, he was on the High Seat. His face was cold, and stiff. “Alpha Rune,” Caldor began, his voice both sharp and heavy. “We question your loyalty, your choices, and your judgment.”I didn’t flinch, at least I didn’t let them see it. The fear I carried wasn’t for myself, it was the ache in my chest, the dread of Raven’s name being dragged through the mud.A man in a robe, one of the Council aides stepped forwar
Rune’s POVThe envelope sat sealed on my desk until midnight. I stared at it for hours, my claws itching under my skin, my wolf prowling behind my eyes. When I finally sliced the seal open, the Council’s insignia glared up at me, cold with its final words.Inside were printed transcripts, voice recordings, and high-resolution images. Raven, leaning into Logan. Logan’s hand brushing her back. A supposed conversation between them where she whispered, “I never loved Rune.”My heart was supposed to break but it didn't. It sank into my stomach, heavily, shattering as it landed on my stomach.I pushed my back in the chair, the leather creaking as my body grew tense. The voice was hers, but it wasn’t…My wolf didn't believe it, Raven showed me while I was in denial of it. There was something that looked clipped, it wasn't natural, but again I couldn't place my hands on it, it was too perfect to notice. My wolf growled, pacing inside me.I stood and walked through the corridors toward the gu
